Our Roots & Inspiration

A note from Ruslan, our founder:

Growing up in Ukraine, I picked up a love for making and woodworking in childhood. My grandfather was a carpenter who helped my parents build their house from scratch. Such upbringing instilled in me a passion for making, and I nourished and built upon it by studying engineering. My later experience working at Rolls-Royce Motor Cars strengthened my appreciation for exceptional craftsmanship. 

Ultimately, it was my passion for making and the desire to lead a mission-driven business that truly sparked the creation of Maisterie Studio.

The Meaning Behind 'Maisterie'

Our name, Maisterie Studio, is a nod to our heritage and our core values. 'Maisterie' is a play on the Ukrainian word ‘Майстер’ (/ˈmʌɪ.stər/, pronounced M-eye-ster), meaning 'craftsman' or 'expert'. It signifies our unwavering commitment to exquisite craftsmanship, employing time-honoured techniques to create pieces of lasting beauty and quality.

Every Maisterie Studio piece is handmade with heart and soul right here in England by our founder and head-craftsman, Ruslan. We use only the highest quality materials, from certified prime-grade hardwoods to state-of-the-art finishes. This ensures maximum longevity and durability, allowing the natural beauty and feel of the materials to shine through.

Sustainability isn't just a buzzword for us; it's ingrained in our process:

  • Timeless Design: We consciously avoid fleeting trends, focusing instead on creating enduring pieces meant to be cherished for generations, reducing the cycle of disposal often associated with 'fast furniture'. (Did you know? In the UK alone, 22 million furniture items are discarded annually, with only 17% recycled. This 'fast furniture', often made from low-quality chipboard and plastic, fuels waste and environmental harm.)
  • Longevity & Repair: Our solid wood products are built to last. Should life leave its marks, they can often be sanded down and refinished, extending their life without creating waste.
  • Giving Back to Nature: For every tree we use in our creations, we partner with the National Trust’s Plant a Tree appeal to ensure three more are planted.
  • Reducing Landfill: Our optional furniture removal service helps divert unwanted items from landfills, giving them a new life through local charity stores.
